Course Overview

To prepare students for the Budapest Economics University State Business English Exam. This course is done with partner teacher who prepares students for the written part of the exam, while John Kowalchuk prepares the students for the oral and listening part of the exam.

 

Course Outline

1. Introduction

An explanation of the structure of the exam and the marking criteria. Review current news topics. Explain methods and ways to prepare for the oral and listening part of the exam.

 

2. Environment

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. Students will learn how to prepare for spoken summary (how to take notes) and also how to give a proper summary.

 

3. Marketing

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. An explanation of how the 'presentation' part of the exam works will be given. Students will deal with several articles relating to this topic.

 

4. Labour Market

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. Students will deal with several articles relating to this topic.

 

5. Telecommunications

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. An introduction to the proper way of doing a 'situation' at the exam.

 

6. Problems with the Hungarian Economy

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. A class discussion on this topic will follow the presentation.

 

7. EU integration

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. Students will deal with several articles relating to this topic. Students will also practise 'situations'.

 

8. Company structures

Students will learn information and vocabulary related to this topic. Students will deal with several articles relating to this topic. Students will also practise 'situations'.

 

9. Students will give summaries of articles, practise situations and answer presentation questions. This will be done as group work with observation and advice from the teacher.

Course Overview

This course is to prepare students to take the two semester course: Preparation for the Business English Exam. Students will go through a variety of topics with an underlying theme of business in order to prepare them for the following course. The course focuses on building vocabulary and refining their spoken English, as well as introducing students to some basic business vocabulary and expressions. The course is taught with a partner teacher focusing on the written side of the course.
